How to start your own busineses on the Internet
Below are interesting facts on How to
Make Money on the Internet and work on
ebusiness communications
to improve your profitability and business success.
[1.] People are getting more sophisticated
on the use of the Internet, they expect
doing business with you to be more streamlined
and expect you to be as sensitive to
them as conventional brick and mortar
businesses.
[2.] Sending unsolicited mass E-Mail
is SPAM and is not tolerated. This marketing
method does not work as people are much
less tolerant of SPAM e-mail than in
the past. Buying and using list of email
addresses should not be considered as
part of your marketing plan.

[3.] Putting up a web site and hoping
to get in top search engine placement
is a thing of the past. You can go to
several places on the Internet and get
a list of the top key words used in
searches by the general public, you
can even build a business model around
the top keywords and good keyword phrases.
[3.b] But how many web sites are you
competing against? The number is extremely
large. Putting up a website is a very
necessary thing to do, but thinking
your going to become an instant success
is not realistic. Most people could
not afford to pay some search-engines
what it cost to get top placement today.
[4.] Just blanket submitting your site
address to thousands of search engines,
FFA sites, Classified ad sites, and
Bulletin boards will get you a lot of
mail, but not much targeted traffic.
Knowing how to target your market is
the key to success on the Internet.
[5.] Paying a monthly fee to FFA (FREE
FOR ALL LINKS) host to use their services
will get you some traffic, and even
some sales, but not enough to build
an income from, maybe not enough to
even pay your monthly overhead. Getting
involved with MLM companies that do
this kind of service can lead to some
of them making a lot of money, but usually
not you. In most cases these companies
are just selling the same E-Mailing
services to each other
[6.] Paying for Search Engine promotion
is one way to help promote
internet based businesses but you
can do SEO work yourself easily and
as much as you want with the right software.
[7.] Putting up a high tech Flash web
site or one with a lot of bandwidth
eating files is not going to increase
your business, it will in fact do just
the opposite. The successful sites are
those that get the message across clear
and fast and do not expect the customer
to download new plug-ins onto their
computers to view the web site. Most
people are still using an average 56K
Modem and are rarely connected at more
than half the modems capability. People
for the most part are on the net for
primarily for two reasons, e-mail and
seeking information.
An overview
of Products and Business Models
There are two basic types of business
with sub-categories under each of those
Services and Distributed Products
The key factor of any product distribution
or service business is how much time,
effort, and material is involved with
each one.
One of my favorite statements told
to me by a successful business owner,
(All it takes to start a business is
a customer!) and that is actually very
true. But whether or not it is a profitable
business actually depends on the business
model and the effort involved in producing
and delivering the product or service
to the customer.
The example below illustrates the difference
between being self employed and being
a business owner:
SELF-EMPLOYED
A person named John has been working on
Air conditioning for a long time, he decides
that he is doing OK at it working for
someone else, but is now realizing that
he could make more money at it if he started
working for himself doing the same job.
He invest in the business and takes
out bank loans to buy his own service
vehicle and other necessary tools, he
starts sending out advertisements in
the newspapers and by word of mouth
he starts to grow his business.
Now John is working twice the hours
maintaining his business, has more expenses
with insurance's, licenses and other
things than before, and is also doing
the physical work himself as well. One
of the things that is stopping him from
growing is the amount of time he is
limited to. He has to handle sales,
business duties and the labor. If he
wants any time off, he loses money.
John decides that he has to hire help,
now he has more business worries with
employees, and still has to do the work
to continue growing. John is much better
at doing the work than the business
side of things so he starts to lose
ground on being able to do all of it
himself, so he hires another person
to handle taking calls and making appointments
as needed. Now he has an office and
phones to maintain and pay for, (Can
you see where this is going)
In this example John became a competitor
in a limited area with the person that
he had worked for, and in turn will
create the same trend until an area
is saturated with the same kind of services
by the same kind of service oriented
people.
BUSINESS OWNER
Lets illustrate how this same service
industry that John had started above
could have been done differently and
at much higher financial success, lets
simply change how the business was built
in the beginning.
If John had taken the time to produce
a business plan, setting up his business
on a larger scale, he could have done
far more and made much more income without
spending nearly as much time as he had
done the other way. The way a successful
business owner would approach the same
service would be by doing a survey of
the needed industry in the area, model
the amount of qualified employees needed
to service the area, set up leasing
options for a fleet of service vehicles,
put in place the office and personnel
to handle the sales and scheduling,
and then presented the business plan
to an investor, whether that be a bank
or private lender with a schedule of
income and pay back.
Doing the same service with more up
front research and building on a business
plan would be much more effective and
profitable. As you can see, the difference
is that John went into the whole concept
in the first example as a self employed
person, and even after hiring others,
he was still self employed. In the second
example, John could leave for a month
and came back and the business would
still be running. He could even use
the success of the first model to build
the same service industry in many places,
further expanding his income and free
time.
Realizing that the actual money being
made is from the exchange of peoples
labor and some parts sales, the profit
coming from the difference between what
was charged the customer and what is
being paid to the employees and other
expenses should be the first clue in
how to become a business owner instead
of being self employed.
The importance of this part about business
is to point out that it isn't the service
in particular that is the limitation
on building the business, but the model
and initial effort you apply to it.
If a business is going to be successful,
it needs to have very large boundaries
and not consume your limited time and
resources to grow. Realizing your time
is finite can be a great indicator of
how to structure your business.
Now lets look at products:
There are two main categories of products,
tangible, and intangible.
Both types of products are valid but
may have different needs for, production,
insurance, patents, copyrights, and
packaging. Not to mention the shear
logistics of delivery, shelf space,
wholesaling, or retail point of purchase
displays, etc.
Selling tangible products can be monumental
depending on the type of product it
is. Producing a small toy could involve
huge amounts of investment in manufacturing,
liability, and more that this E-Book
is going to cover for obvious reasons.
Instead we are going to focus on the
marketing of the products, whether tangible
or intangible, it is more important
to know how to market them, not necessarily
what the product is.
An intangible product could be a web-
site requiring paid membership to access,
an e-mail newsletter, ezine, software
that can be downloaded, graphics or
other content that can be sold via electronic
transfer over the Internet. This is
not a complete list, but it gives you
and idea of an intangible product.
The advantages of selling intangible
products on the Internet in comparison
to tangible items:
Once the original item is produced,
it self replicates for download and
there is no limit on how many copies
can be sold because of production problems,
reproduction so to speak is done in
(real time).
Packaging is not required in the physical
sense, and the product can be (virtually)
packaged just like this E-Book as an
example.
Changes can be made on the fly for
updating if it is served from an Internet
site or by E-Mail, and updates can be
made available at any time giving a
good reason to contact the customer
again.
Delivery can be nearly instantaneous
without nearly the cost of sending a
product by conventional means. This
can lower the cost of the product substantially.
Customer satisfaction is immediate
and can lead to more sales if the product
has quality and leads to customer satisfaction.
There is no inventory to keep, lowering
the problems and overhead of conventional
products.
Now you can see why working with intangible
products is so attractive for building
income.
I was told once that: "The only
way to become wealthy is to build something
out of raw material and sell it for
more than the cost." This is actually
very true, but data is just as valid
a product as physical material in this
new internet-age.
